The Welsh Nurse Practitioner Association

(W N P A)

Welcome to the "Welsh Nurse Practitioner Association" (WNPA) WebPages.

The WNPA provides a forum specifically for qualified and student Nurse Practitioners working in Wales but also for all others  who are in any way involved in developing, enabling or enacting that role.

The WNPA believes that the Nurse Practitioner role is complex and that it is evident and demonstrated by advanced clinical practice, and that such practice is supported by an extensive clinical and theoretical educational foundation.

The WNPA was originally formed in the 1990's by a small group of Nurses who had undertaken the Nurse Practitioner Degree provided at the School of Health Science (SHS), University of Wales Swansea.
In 1999 original members of the WNPA and key academic staff at the SHS formed a new committee which aimed to review professional issues pertaining to Nurse Practitioner education and development. The 'Nurse Practitioner Education and Development Group' (NPEDG) quickly became a forum that would unite the WNPA and other key professionals in the professional advancement of Nurse Practitioners in Wales.
The title NPEDG has now been dropped in favour of the original title "The Welsh Nurse Practitioner Association" (WNPA) - reflecting the innovation of the original individuals who have done so much.

The WNPA seeks to:
  • Provide a professional forum for all practising and student NP’s in Wales
  • Establish a network throughout Wales for Nurse Practitioners
  • Develop information resources for Nurse Practitioners in Wales
  • Consider and review educational resources for Nurse Practitioners in Wales
THE NURSE PRACTITIONER
